Community Liaison Officer's Update
Headcorn’s Community Liaison Officer Stuart Ellesmere reports that the proposed village-wide Cold Calling Zone signage is in development. This scheme should be launching in the New Year.
There have been some reports of nuisance parking and to here is how to report it: a general rule is that if there is a yellow or double yellow line or parking bays then it is an issue for Maidstone Borough Council’s enforcement
team: parkingserviceoperations@maidstone.gov.uk. If the vehicle is too close to a junction or is blocking a pavement or a hazard to users on the road it is Kent Police’s responsibility (although an officer has to physically see it) – the correct way to report that is to phone 101.
Stuart has also been liaising with West Kent Housing Neighbourhood Officer Mike Perry, meeting residents over local issues in West Kent property areas. Mike’s email is michael.perry@wkha.org.uk if you are a West Kent tenant and need help and support.

Stuart has arranged another Community Safety Surgery which will be held at the Heart of Headcorn Community Hub on the 21st November 2024 from 12.15-13.45.

Finally, Stuart will undertake training next month with Members of the Community Safety Team ‘Tackling ASB and problem solving in partnership’ – again, Headcorn is the only active Parish that has been openly invited to the training in the borough of Maidstone.

Neighbourhood Plan
As a reminder, this is currently at Regulation 16 stage whereby MBC consult on the draft plan’s content. We have responded to questions as they have been raised, whilst ensuring we remain aligned to MBC’s parameters. As soon as there is progress to the next stage we will let everyone know.
New PA System in time for Remembrance Sunday
We are ready for this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade and service on Sunday 10th November. The schedule is unchanged from previous years, but to remind everyone here are the details…

There will be road closures from 10.30am to 12.30pm on: A274 North Street/Kings Road; Lenham Road/Forge Lane; Forge Lane;Oak Lane; Wheeler Street/Oak Lane; High Street/Oak Lane; Rushford Close (exit); Sainsbury's Car Park (exit) and the exit from the Village Hall.

The Parade will start from the station car park at around 10.40am, arriving at the War Memorial at around 10.50am. The service begins immediately after. We are delighted to have a new PA system this year which we hope will mean that the large crowd should be able to better hear proceedings.
Poppies
You may be familiar with the ‘lamp post poppies’ that are installed in Headcorn and around Kent each year to mark Remembrance Day. They do a good job of signifying how important the occasion is to our community. However we have long felt that their design could be improved to not only make them more attractive but also make them more sustainable. Thus we are delighted this year to be unveiling Headcorn’s very own design of community poppy. This aligns much more closely to the traditional worn poppy and, we feel, will give a unique look to our community’s event. We have also been careful to incorporate a design that is both easy to install and easy to keep, ensuring they last many years.
New School Crossing Patrol - Can you help?
Despite weeks of advertising the post, Headcorn School is still searching for its new Road Crossing Patrol staff. This is a permanent paid post which is part time only, for 7.5 hours a week. It would be a great job for anyone who lives close to the school and doesn’t want the commitment of a longer working day. It might even be possible to share the job if two candidates are found. If you would like to find out more or apply then you can do that here below:
